Manon

Manon is 17 years old and lives in France with her family. When Manon was little she had global developmental delays, hypotonia and she never crawled and walked until 22 months. At first we were told she had autism because Manon had autistic attributes but it didn't really fit because she liked contact with others. As a child Manon was also afraid of outside noises like motorcycles, lawnmowers and even buzzing insects. Today she is still anxious when insects buzz. Around 2 years old Manon started to have sleep problems, she had great difficulty falling asleep and would wake up at night screaming. She also had seizures. She slept very little, even though as a baby she slept very well. Around the age of 8, the night terrors and major sleep disturbances disappeared. Manon also has difficulty articulating but has a lot of vocabulary (which often surprises her teachers). Manon has always liked having books read to her and she started to read a little around the age of 10. Today she can read little books and, above all, can communicate by message with her family and friends. She writes on her cell phone but has difficulty writing by hand. She writes in block letters which in a few words take up the whole sheet! She has enormous difficulty with numbers and can only count up to 15. Today she can dress herself but she needs help to tie her shoes and to take a shower. She also has difficulty cutting food. Manon also has a strabismus and hyperopia. She also has scoliosis, which has improved a lot with physiotherapy sessions. She also often has migraines. Manon does not know how to ride a bike despite several attempts. Manon loves pizzas. She likes listening to music, dancing and seeing other people. Despite her motor skills problems, she also likes to color mandalas and do Diamond painting. She can also concentrate on them for a long time. She watches TV shows like Large Family, Super Nanny... and her favorite series is Camping Paradise. Her favorite person is her dad. She loves walking with her family and is always happy to meet new people. She also likes to cook but her fine motor skills problems prevent her from doing it alone. Manon is a little shy but once she trusts you she becomes very talkative. She is cheerful and likes people around her to be happy, if she sees someone sad she always has a word to reassure them. She also has a great sense of humor and likes to laugh. She still sometimes has trouble managing her emotions when frustrated.
